The quilt and other random things

I have been inspired to make a quilt. Well...not a real quilt with a pattern or anything, but a rag quilt! I was needing something to take to the ballgames to sit on and then to cover up with; had this brilliant idea that I would make something myself (green of course). I just wonder if I will get to use it this year?!? We have a wonderful quilt shop in Jonesborough that carries the most delicious fabrics I have ever seen. I could no sooner pick a star in the Heavens. I spent almost 2 hours in the store trying to make a decision on what fabrics to use on my quilt. The ladies there were very nice; helping me put different things together and giving me tips along the way. I went a completely different direction than I thought and can not wait to see the finished product. Wondering around that store makes me want to make a quilt in every color for every season. HA! I suppose I should finish this one before I get carried away. Who knows...I may have found my true calling...ok maybe not. I need to learn to sew a straight line first.

I have almost finished cutting all the squares (120 of them) and I am about to move onto cutting the batting (60 more squares). I choose 6 patterns for the front and 1 pattern for the back. Here is a pic of the fabric. Black with white polka dots for the back, a green/blue mosaic, green with blue Eiffel Tower toile, white with green and blue polka dots, green stripes, green with blue polka dots, and white with blue and pink peacocks. I have now made an amendment to the quilt. As I started cutting the peacock fabric, the pattern was getting lost with the size of square. I am going to the quilt shop tomorrow to pick out a different fabric and I will use this one to make a pillow...or something fabulous! Make sure to enlarge the picture so you can see the detail.

This week I have some prayer requests.

On Friday a high school football player in our area had a massive heart attack on the field and past away. Please pray that his family and friends will receive comfort after such sadness. With mixed emotions we will play this team Friday. I am really not sure how I feel about this. We want to have school spirit but respect that their team and fans will still be mourning. It is going to be a hard Friday for everyone involved.

The past 2 weeks a man has been on trial for the kidnapping, rape and murder of a Knoxville couple in 2007. I went to high school with one of the victims. This case makes me so sick to think that humans are capable of doing that to one another. This man did not work alone and there will be other trials. Please pray for the victims families as they have to relive this pain. I know that during the trial the family had to listen to the man give an account of exactly what happened. I could never imagine having to hear the way that my child was savaged and the murdered. It is sickening what happened to them. So pray for comfort for this family and that justice will be served.

This next prayer request seems frivolous when compared to the past 2. But no request is too great or too small. Artie and I will be traveling to the Bahamas in a few weeks and I am completely terrified of flying. I have been pushing it to the back of my mind but the time is upon us. Please pray for my peace as we travel and a safe return. Seems kinda silly when you consider what other people are going through. I think that's it for tonight.

Don't forget about the give away for my 100th post!!! This is 98....stay tuned!

Blessings!

Cupcake Party!

The majorettes and I have a tradition (all of 2 years) to have a cupcake party before the 1st game. This year has been absolutely crazy and so we decided to have it after the 1st game. It was so much fun getting to spend time with the girls outside of practice. Their personalities really come out when they have a little sugar in them! Haha. I hosted the party at my house this year and it was a success. Looking at these pictures reminds me that I need to finally put something on the walls of my kitchen. I am looking forward to next years party!

First game of the season

Friday was the first football game and it was wonderful! The girls did great and looked beautiful! We all had a lot of fun. I feel so lucky to be able to work with these girls. They really are a great group and I will miss them when they are gone. I am looking forward to the rest of the season. Here are some photos from the night.

Promotion

Boy have I had a busy week! The 1st football game is Friday and I am so excited. But with the 1st football game comes the majorette preparations. Shew...and boy do they have a lot of things to prepare. Every hour of this week is scheduled with something. I have glued so many rhinestones that my fingers are permanently stuck together! I can not wait for the girls to debut their new beautiful costumes, they are stunning. I will have some fabulous photos this weekend to show you.

Here is a little promotion that we did for The Christmas Shop. A local news papers website has a video deal of the week and we participated. I was sick as a dog on the day we shot this so I decided not to say a lot. I sounded terrible and snotty. Haha. So here ya go!

Just Call Me Hannah

Sometimes I pray so stinkin much about being a mother that I feel like Hannah. She was praying so passionately that the priest, Eli, thought she was drunk. That is how I feel at times...but you could probably put me in the angry or belligerent category.

I was looking at blogs the other day and I read a passage from a Bible study that really hit home. (This particular blogger is also dealing with infertility) The study stated "When you bring Me prayer requests, lay out your concerns before Me. Speak to Me candidly; pour out your heart. THEN thank Me for the answers that I have set into motion long before you can discern results. When your requests come to mind again, continue to thank Me for the answers that are on the way. If you keep stating your concerns to Me, you will live in a state of tension. When you thank Me for how I am answering your prayers, your mind-set becomes much more positive. Thankful prayers keep your focus on My Presence and My promises."

Well duh, Heather!

About a month ago, I started to pray a different prayer. Some not so good things were going on and I wanted nothing more than for God to take the desire to be a mother away. I prayed so intently every night hoping the pain would go away. Hoping that the desire would decrease.

I now realize that I have been very selfishly praying. I keep asking and asking and asking, never thanking (at least not for this subject).

I know God has a plan. He has already set it in motion. I have NO CLUE where His path leads and He has not given me a map...YET(not that I could read it...maybe I could use GPS) But I find some comfort in knowing there is a plan. No, it does not take the hurt completely away. But ease it, yes. Are there days when I want to stay in bed and have a pity party...of course. I'm human. But eventually I will see what God had designed for me. One day I will be a mother to someone and I will thank Him for it today. tomorrow and even after it has happened.

The Show!

Here is a video of the final performance at camp on Friday! The girls did amazing but please excuse the last song. We put it on the field literally 3 hours before the performance, so there is no choreography for the last half. We like to call it "Random Twirling!". Also, we will be using flamenco fans for part of the time (after the clapping). The show is awesome this year and I am so pumped about the 1st game! Please remember that this was all done in 5 days. Enjoy!

Home Away From Home

I'M BACK! This past week I have been attending band camp in North Carolina and then recuperating for the past 3 days (and starring at a pile of laundry too). The college we stayed at did not have air conditioning. Let's think about this...the end of July in a hot sticky dorm with children who do not shower frequently. NOT GOOD. I received funny looks when I pulled up with an air conditioner but they were singing a different tune by the time Tuesday rolled around haha! We (the band) actually could not have asked for better weather. Ok...well it could have been a little better. It rained almost everyday but it was nice for to not be melting your skin off. We put the whole show on the field even through the rain. The girls looked super cute everyday, they love to match! Here are some photos from the week. There are a lot...98 to be exact. But I will spare you and only post the good ones! I will be back to my regularly scheduled nonsense this week. Oh and PS- the commercial has started airing!
